    Hello

I am running WordPress 3.5 and version 8.4.8 of the eMember plugin on a test site, and have recently started to have the following two problems (which I thought would be fixed by upgrading the plugin but this has not been the case):

Comments are showing to non logged in users, even though I have gone to the settings menu of eMember and unchecked “Protect Comments Separately”

Comments are all requiring approval, even though “Before a comment appears an administrator must always approve the comment” is also unchecked in WordPress.

I have searched the forums but relevant posts seem to relate to a similar issue early last year that was solved by an upgrade if my memory is correct.

    Any help would be great

    Many thanks

There are a few different variations/setup available. Lets get a good idea of what setup you have.

Comment approval comes from the WordPress discussion settings (this is not something eMember controls). Are you logged into the site as a WP Admin?

Do you have the “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” checkbox checked in the discussions settings of WP Admin?

What checkboxes do you have checked from the “Before a comment appears” field of the WordPress discussions settings?

What are the values that you have set for the following eMember settings options?

    – Protect Comments Separately

    – Members Must be Logged in to Comment

By default, comments on a protected post or page is also protected. So you are looking at the comment section of a protected post correct? Can you post a link to the post or page in question?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Here are the answers…

Are you logged into the site as a WP Admin? YES

Do you have the “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” checkbox checked in the discussions settings of WP Admin?

NO – members have never needed to be logged in to WordPress, only to eMember

What checkboxes do you have checked from the “Before a comment appears” field of the WordPress discussions settings?

An administrator must always approve the comment NO

Comment author must have a previously approved comment NO

What are the values that you have set for the following eMember settings options?

    – Protect Comments Separately NO

    – Members Must be Logged in to Comment YES

So you are looking at the comment section of a protected post correct? Can you post a link to the post or page in question?

    YES – please see [http://www.pettipher-young.co.uk/living-gracefully-the-best-we-can/]

As I said, this is a test site, not the live version, so if you need access to look inside just let me know

    Many thanks

Thank you for the link. You have a bit of issue with your blog format. I am not very sure what this theme is doing. How come you have two blog entries on that page that you shared?

Why is your theme showing comments on the blog entry page? That is wrong. When you go to the following page which is the correct URL of that post, you will see that the comments are protected correctly:

So at this stage it looks like this theme is doing something wild. We are going to do a quick test to find out if my assumption is correct or not. Please do the theme test mentioned at the following post and tell me what you see when you switch to a default WordPress theme:

    Hi there,

I hear you about the theme, it’s time for a change anyway so I will use a premium, non-auto generated one this time round – useful articles you pointed me to, thanks.
