Hi,
Is there a way to change/remove the header from the widget as well as change the links from the three offered in the settings?

The widget header text can be customized from the language file. More info on how to customize the language file here:

You can add more links or other message to the login widget for logged in members from the “Pages/forms Settings” tab (look for the “Additional Message for Logged in Members” field).
