Good Day,
I think I may be being a bit thick here, but I have searched the forum high and low and can’t find the answer. We have a member of eMember who has entered an incorrect email address ending with .co instead of .com. (Quite by chance, we know the member personally, and so know that his address should be .com.)
We are using direct PayPal subscribe button integration. The member has the email wrong at Paypal too (we just checked).
So the question is, how do we fix this for him? WP eMember won’t let us change the email address. It looks like you can, but when you update the members record, it reverts back to the incorrect email address that the member entered. Is it intended that the email address can’t be edited?
Sorry to bother you with this, as I think it may be more PayPal’s issue than yours, but I would appreciate any help you can give.
May 27, 2013 at 12:04 am #55849adminKeymasterYou can definitely change the email address in eMember. When you are editing the member’s record, can you make sure that you are not triggering a form validation error that is preventing the update to go through? There will be a red warning next to the form fields that are incorrectly filled.
What version of eMember are you using? Are you using a one time membership purchase model or a subscription model?
May 28, 2013 at 1:11 pm #55850jharriesMemberHi
I’m using v8.6.3 on WP 3.5.1
I have it figured out, but it is a bit funky and could maybe use some work.
When I tried to change the email address and clicked save, I got a username code can’t be changed validation error even though I had not changed the username. I think this was because the username was blank because the member had not completed his registration.
So using the edit member screen I gave him a username and password and changed the email. eMember then created a new record for that member and made it so you could not edit the old member. Fine, as far as it goes, although a bit confusing. But there is one more serious problem and that is that eMember did not copy over the Unique Reference/Subscriber ID.
So then I went into our Paypal account and found his Subscriber ID and updated his record manually.
So I’m guessing that all is good now and he will automatically renew (we are using subscriptions) next period?
Anyway, no big deal, but maybe it could be made so you can change an email address for someone not fully registered (blank username) since that is the most likely scenario if they put in the wrong email.
Thanks
John
May 29, 2013 at 1:54 am #55851adminKeymasterHi John, yeah it should be fine in terms of the subscription.
When you have a situation of an incomplete registration, simply go to the admin functions menu and generate a registration link. Then use that special link to complete the registration or send that special link to the user. When you complete the registration, you can correct/update the email address in the process.
