Google is seeing the root https://example.com/photo_details/ which kind of defeats the purpose of the custom URLs (which are a great idea. BTW)
Would be good to be able to suppress (or remove) the canonical OR (preferred) canonicalize to the photo URL dynamically, and for consistency to change the URL string to all lower case (this wouldn’t be necessary if the canonical to the photo-specific URL was in place, but it’s a good SEO practice)
ie [https://vintagevirginiaphotos.com/photo_details/6/1076/142a-167-Norfolk-W-Freemason-5-22-1978/view] to would render as
[https://vintagevirginiaphotos.com/photo_details/6/1076/142a-167-norfolk-w-freemason-5-22-1978/view] with a canonical to

Oops realized there was no question in there:
Can we suppress or remove the canonical from the photo detail page? (which I think is the default behavior with the facebook like enabled)
Thank you
Is the canonical coming from a SEO plugin that you are using?
Yeah… that is it…
So I can explain to the plugin developer.. how (and when) are those URLs built? At runtime / build of page?
Cheers
The SEO plugin you are using likely has an option to exclude some URLs from using canonical. Maybe you can exclude that “photo details” page.
