Cancelling a members payments without deactivating the account

I have a membership site and would like to offer that if someone brings 3 others onto the membership that their own monthly payments will be cancelled. How can I do this without their membership being automatically cancelled as well?

First cancel the payment which will deactivate the membership account in eMember. Then manually edit this members record from the dashboard and set the status to active again.
