We have people that will refer people to us with their employee #, and when a purchase is made, referred by a specific employee, we pay them a commission. What I need the shopping cart to do is have a text box in which customers can enter the referral #, and then when the item is purchased, I want to know the referral #, if any, for that specific transaction in the confirmation email to me.
Example
Your friend tells you to buy a product from us, and use referral # 12345 so he can get a commission. You go to our checkout, and you enter 1234 in the Referral box, and complete the purchase. On my end, I get a confirmation email for the transaction (I already have this happening now), that includes that referral #.
I don’t need a full blown affiliate solution. This is going to be temporary, and I just need to get the email with that id#. I will manually pay the commissions after the fact.
How can this be done?
February 1, 2011 at 3:10 am #28540IvyMemberHi, You have 2 options for this.
1. You can use the eStore with the customer text input option. This way the customer can enter the number and it will be passed with the other information to PayPal then on to your.
2. The other options is to use the eStore and Affiliate. You would need to use the following option:
Allow Affiliate ID Entry
When checked the plugin will give the customer an option to enter an “Affiliate ID” in the shopping cart to give reward to an affiliate
Option number 2 is more robust and reliable but it is up to you which meets your needs the better.
February 1, 2011 at 3:57 pm #28541billboardfamilyMemberI think Option 1 works best for this particular situation, but I don’t see the Customer Text Input anywhere in the Settings. Can you point me int he right direction?
I see you can do it on each item, but I just need it for the entire cart. We have 600 items, and I don’t want to edit each one so a single code can be entered for each transaction.
Plus, if a customer buys 20 items, they are not going to want to type in the referral # 20 times.
Thanks

February 2, 2011 at 4:00 am #28543IvyMemberHi, You can find this option in the Add/Edit Products > Additional Product Details > Collect Customer Input.
If you want it to be cart specific you would need to use option 2
November 15, 2011 at 3:49 am #28544kentuckysloneMemberI know this is an older post but I am needing some information in regards to this question/issue.
I am setting up a shop using the tips and tricke estore and affiliate program. I want the customer to be able to enter a referral id in a text field on the checkout page. How can I accomplish this?
November 15, 2011 at 4:22 am #28545PeterMemberHi,
If by “referral id” you mean affiliate id then you can achieve this by doing the following:
Go to your eStore Settings page and click on the “Addon Settings” link at the top of the settings page.
Then enable the “Allow Affiliate ID Entry” checkbox.
This will display a text box in your shopping cart which will be labeled as “Enter Affiliate ID”.
