MemberIf i archived objects within amazon s3 to amazon Glacier – say after 90 days of inactivity / no downloads, would the download still work? I understand Glacier takes 3-5 hours to make available the file so perhaps it would fail with the only recourse to manual create a encrypted link via the estore admin panel?

ModeratorI don’t believe Glacier is an acceptable solution; because when a customer clicks a download link, they want it now.
What is the total size for all of your digital download files? It may make more business sense, given that we’re talking about Amazon S3 (which is inexpensive to begin with), to simply pay for the extra storage capacity.

MemberAt the moment they are around 35GB which a costs around $.80 USD per month so not alot but of course with large video files, this will add up
That’s also with reduced redundancy

ModeratorWhat kind of video site are you running? Perhaps you can do what Amazon Prime Video does; cycle the availability of videos for immediate download. At certain times of the year, only certain sets of videos are available for downloading, while the rest are “on ice,” until enough demand builds for them.

MemberThat’s a great idea – not sure how I would work that with glacier – it may get confusing – I had an email that amazon are introducing a cheaper s3 option – more redundant than ‘reduced redundancy’ so that may be ok.
Perhaps add videos that haven’t sold in 6 months to some sort of rotation que? Do you know of any wordpress plugins for rotating old posts?

The answer to every business problem is not another plugin. Businesses (that make money) also rely on people doing research, and well executed operational procedures. You might end up using a combination of sales, downloads seasonal and popularity analytics to make your rotational decisions.
