I have a library system going and I want all 3 levels of membership to be able to see all the content I have but only level 2 and 3 to be able to actually play the videos or download the ebooks. In other words, I want to show level one members all the cool stuff we have but restrict their access to use the content unless they upgrade. I thought this was possible when I purchased the plugin but I can figure out or find how to do it. Any help?
thx
August 23, 2012 at 11:24 pm #48629PeterMemberYou can use the section protection shortcodes to selectively protect certain content on a page depending on membership level.
You can be as creative as you like – eg, you might want to show a 30sec video excerpt for the level 2 members whilst the level 3 can see another version of the same video which contains the whole content and other goodies.

August 24, 2012 at 3:46 pm #48630BizlinkglobalMemberThanks. I do understand that function of the short codes, but that requires making duplicate content. What I want is to be able to upload all my videos and ebooks once, let all membership levels see them but have certain level memberships get a restriction message if they try to download the book or play the video…basically restriction “on click”. Can this plugin do that or are all the other sites I see doing this creating dummy videos that are just graphics that link to an upgrade or sign in page on click and then allowing different members to see different versions of the same page, essentially one page that functions and one that does not?
thanks
August 25, 2012 at 5:18 am #48631adminKeymasterThe kind of JavaScript “onclick” protection you are talking about is not very secure in terms of protecting your content. It is easy to get past a JavaScript protection and get the content without being a member so we do not use it in eMember. The safest way to protect your content is to not render that content at all in the browser unless the page is being seen by a logged in verified member.
With that said, you do not need to create duplicate content to achieve something close to what you are after without compromising the security of your content. eMember’s section protection renders dynamic content based on what the user is permitted to see (it doesn’t does keep it hidden in the page… it is not even rendered). In the teaser section that is open to everyone you can add text, screenshot, graphic description of what will be given to them when they purchase a full membership but only make the real video (you main secret) available to a logged in member only. The following demo page has an example which might give you some ideas:
