When a customer in my store orders a digital download video, I’m wondering if there’s a way that while they wait for their download to complete (which can take a couple of hours) they have the option of watching the streaming version of the video? Any ideas?
They would need to be given the encrypted streaming video link in their order confirmation email I’m guessing?

It really depends on the speed of their Internet connection, and how you are hosting the content.
- If your customer demographic is able to download files while watching Netflix at the same time, then yes.
- If you are trying to do this hosting all the content on your own server (not using Amazon S3), then the answer is no.
Unless you are willing to extensively research the technical capabilities of your customers, and then engineer (spend money for) the site with sufficient robustness; the answer is 99% no..
May 31, 2015 at 3:08 pm #70229andeMemberThank you for your help. I would be hosting the digital downloads on Amazon S3, and the streaming video on Vimeo.
May 31, 2015 at 3:11 pm #70230wzpModeratorThen ***maybe*** it might work. Try setting up a test page and have a few people “bang away at it,” to see what happens. Since the downloads will be hosted on Amazon S3, the deciding factor will be the customer’s Internet connection.
June 1, 2015 at 2:07 am #70231andeMemberLet’s say the customer’s internet speed is good. What’s the best way to go about setting up this product in the estore, such that the customer purchases a digital download product, then gets an email receipt with the download link AND the streaming link. Thank you.
June 1, 2015 at 11:41 pm #70232adminKeymaster#1) First, create your product that will be the digital download of the video file. Lets say that this eStore product’s ID is 1
#2) Create another product for the streaming option (this product will use the APR feature).
https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/using-wordpress-permalinks-as-digital-products-apr-1217
Lets say that this eStore product’s ID is 2
#3) Now, create a new bundled product using product 1 and 2. Lets say that this bundled product’s ID is 3. Sell this product ID 3 and your customers will get both the digital download and the streaming download link.
June 2, 2015 at 3:13 pm #70233andeMemberI did all this, thank you. Everything works great, but I see that the Product Specific Instructions for both of these products (digital & stream) carry over to the bundle.
Is there a way to deactivate the Product Specific Instructions for the 2 products in the bundle?
I would like to just have Product Specific Instructors for the bundle itself.
June 3, 2015 at 12:24 am #70234adminKeymasterNo, the product specific instructions for all the products will be included when the bundle is sold.
June 3, 2015 at 12:57 am #70235wzpModeratorAlternatively, you could “clone” those 2 products, sans their product specific instructions, and then use the cloned products in your bundle.
