Bulk upload issue with file save

I’ve followed the directions to bulk upload members to eMember, and have been running some tests with the csv template. If I simply download the template and upload it with no changes, it works fine. The two members listed are imported. However, if I open the csv file (with excel Mac2008) and re-save it (making no changes to the template data), the import silently fails. It seems to work, but no members are added.

What might be going wrong?

I may have just figured this one out. If I choose Save As… > Windows Comma Separated (.csv), then it seems to import as expected. The Mac default Comma Separated Values (.csv) did not seem to work for me.
