I took great pains to make sure all my image file names were Written Just Like This (proper capitalization and no dashes/hyphens between words). I did bulk upload and everything uploaded as expected EXCEPT every file name changed to be lowercase-and-with-dashes-between-words. This causes the search function not to work, not to mention being hard to read and looking cuckoo…Did I miss something? I’ve got thousands of photos here and the only thing I know to do is manually change each and every individual file name.

On Windows and iOS, file names are allowed to have spaces. Most web servers use the Linux or Unix operating systems; which do not allow spaces in file names. Also, unlike iOS and Windows; Linux and Unix treat file names like “File” and “file” as 2 different files. If the plugin did not force case conformance, we’d be receiving an equal amount of complaints about why “File” and “file” are being treated differently.
So your solution is _____? I suppose I get what you’re saying, but having all those dashes inserted causes the search feature not to work at all…unless someone happens to put dashes in between every word. It seems like this would have come up before??
Linux and Unix were here long before Windows and iOS. We didn’t invent those file naming restrictions.
You don’t have to be so short and unhelpful in your replies. I purchased your plugin and it is not performing as expected. Are you saying I am the first person to ever mention that the search aspect of the plugin doesn’t work because of the hyphens? I am the first person who doesn’t want to go through over 1000 photos and manually change every single file name?

If your photo file name was as follows:
Written Just Like This.jpg
then the photo seller should still set the photo title to “Written Just Like This”.
The photo title will effectively be used as part of the special search functionality provided by this plugin so you should have no issues.
There are also many other ways to utilise the search function irrespective of the hyphens in the filename.
You can add metadata to your photos such as IPTC keywords and also you can add alt text etc all of which will be utilised in the photo seller search functionality.
The point I’m making is that the search functionality of your galleries will be unaffected after the photo seller changes the filename to use hyphens instead of spaces.
The title itself is being changed by adding hyphens and un-capitalizing the words, it is not staying Written Like This.jpg The alt text is also coming up with hyphens.
When someone searches something like Main Street or main street, it is not pulling any photos because the search is looking only for main-street.
If I am missing something obvious, I apologize, but I will need more details on what I am doing wrong. I still have many hundreds of photos to upload.

That’s odd because I just tested this on my system and the title definitely has no hyphens after uploading to a gallery and capitalisation remains as it was in the original file name.
Just to confirm, in your gallery settings page after you upload your photo and scroll down to the list of gallery photos, click on the “Edit” link. This will open the photo edit page. Can you confirm that the box at the top of the page contains a title with dashes?
If so, then maybe another plugin or your theme is adding those and hence you should do a plugin/theme conflict test.
