Okay, I have done a bulk import of around 300 members using the bulk member import plugin but with that I had the exact experience as forum request #14699 which was, presumably, concluded personally.
So I deleted the 300 members I initially imported and thought I would do a test on using the bulk importer with just one member being imported. The import, on both occasions, has been done completely as instructed. Everything, on both occasions, seemed to import fine with the appropriate count success rate. The problem though is that the user name hasn’t imported on both occasions. So there is clearly a problem with that element. With the second test import, with just a single member, the auto notification email sent out just had the username as blank but the password was given. So I wonder whether the fact that the user name is not importing is the main issue here or whether there is something more. Thanks for any assistance.
December 6, 2020 at 5:00 pm #82100wzpModeratorWhat are the column names used in your CSV file? And What is the import line for that first member read, in the CSV file? Also, are you using UTF-8 encoding; both for the CSV file and your WordPress database?

I am using UTF-8 for the csv but I have found the following from a support notice issued by my hoster, WordPress.com.
Some plugins require a particular database character set, such as UTF-8. Sites on WordPress.com use Latin1 as a character set. If a plugin requires a different character set, please reach out to the plugin developers for an alternative solution.
Perhaps that is the problem then?

December 7, 2020 at 6:08 pm #82112adminKeymasterThat’s not going to work. I will send you an email.

@nagytibor: I have same promblem [sic].Please be more specific, about your particular case. You are using a WordPress.com site? Your database has mixed UTF-8 / Latin-1 encoding? Or you are just plain having problems with CSV importing?
