I’m launching my affiliate program several months after starting the site. I’ve got well over 100 active members.

I’m trying to figure out the pros and cons of checking this box “Automatically Create Affiliate Account.”

I assume it only creates an affiliate account when a NEW member signs up. So all of my existing members would still have to manually register as affiliates. How would that work vis a vis the Affiliate page? If they’re active they go right to the Affiliate dashboard, but if not, they’re prompted to register?

I doubt everyone will actively pursue selling memberships as affiliates. Would it make any difference from an admin perspective? Or is it normal for 95% of registered affiliates to do nothing anyway?

Would love to hear whether and why others implemented this, and how it worked out.

    Thanks!

Yes, if you turn that option on it will automatically create an affiliate account each time a member signup (it will use the same credentials for the affiliate account). When they are logged into eMember they won’t have to separately log into the affiliate section.

The effectiveness really depends on the type of members you have and the niche that you are in. This feature was mainly requested by users who are running a membership site for internet marketers. So for that niche it really works well as the members are internet marketers and is more likely to have a website and promote the membership.

OK, I turned this on because I think it makes sense going forward. I also activated “Automatically Log into Affiliate Account” so they don’t have to login again.

What I don’t understand is how pre-existing members will experience this. The first time they click the affiliate menu link, they’ll be forced to register, right? Will they thereafter be automatically logged in or will they always have to login separately to the affiliate area?

And what would happen if an existing user creates an affiliate id using a different email address and/or different paypal email address (which I have made mandatory)? Will they still be logged in to affiliate system when they login to emember?

    Thanks!

As long as the the Affiliate ID they choose when creating the account is the same as their eMember username they will automatically get logged in.

Makes sense… So is there a way to fill in the affiliate username field for them automatically on the registration form, to make sure they use the same username? They will be logged into emember when they register…

Or if not, where would I add a prompt to that effect?

Well, heck – what if the WP/emember username has a dash (or some other character) not supported by the affiliate plugin? Kind of hard for them to use the same username…

The affiliate ID goes in the URL so there are more restrictions on what characters can be used in that field. This is to make sure that there will never be a case of malformed URL.

When you use the “Automatically Create Affiliate Account” option eMember will make sure that a user creates a username that is suitable for both eMember and the affiliate ID field. Since you are trying to do this in middle you are having this issue but we knew that when we implemented this feature.

I trust the passwords don’t have to be the same, right?

The value of the password field doesn’t matter for this so yeah they can be different.

Is there a way I can add the pre-existing members to affiliate program?
