MemberI set up a free download on my blog for people who subscribe. The way I set it up was using the API app and autoresponder through aWeber, turing the “opt-in” in aWeber off.
It worked well for months, people would click the “download now” button and be automatically subscribed to my newsletter.
Now however, I’m finding that people are clicking “download now” and are not being subscribed to the newsletter unless they confirm using the email that aWeber sends out. Which of course if after the download link is sent and once they get their free stuff, they have less of a reason to sign up.
I was told by aWeber
“The confirmation opt-in setting only applies to subscribers who fill
out an AWeber opt-in form as that allows us to capture the specific
URL and IP address that they are coming from. Apps do not allow for
that to happen.”
So does anyone know a work around for this or know if aWeber changed the way they do things? Because it used to work!

MemberHi, You might be confusing that feature with the MailChimp settings in eStore.
Only the MailChimp API allows you to disable double-optin and the setting for that is the checkbox called Disable Double Opt-In in the Mailchimp settings of eStore.
The AWeber API has never had a feature which allows the admin to bypass the opt-in process. AWeber API requires a double opt-in. AWeber doesn’t have an option in their API to turn off double opt-in like MailChimp does.

MemberHmmmm. I’ve never used MailChimp. Yet it was working without double opt-in for at least two months. And it does work with my customers – when someone purchases an ebook they get signed up for my newsletter but no confirmation email goes out to them. (does this work differently than the API then?)

MemberYes for AWeber, the API behaviour is different than for the cases where you explicitly use an AWeber form.
The AWeber API has never offered the option of bypassing the double opt-in. You can ask aweber for clarification.
