anyone know how I can get the member_id into the registration complete email?

what i need is to get the ID number that is allocated to a member into the registration complete email.

Anyone know how this can be done? Bearing in mind that I am a novice!

I did try changing the email template as below but it does not have desired effect?

member_id is the name of the db field I want to include.

Dear {first_name} {last_name}

Your registration is now complete!

Registration details:

Username: {user_name}

Password: {password}

Unique ID#: {member_id}

{login_link}
