Good evening. I am about to launch a product with affiliates for the first time so I am very new to all that…and for my question…
My affiliates will email a link their contact list promoting my landing page. I’m in the process of setting up the pluging and I have signed up as an affiliate so I can test it and see how it works. I was very surprised to notice that the links that the plugin generate include the name of the affiliates. I am not sure that my affiliate will feel comfortable sending a link to their list with their name in it. Is there a way to change the affiliate’s links?
Thank you very much,
Tali

The string in the affiliate link is not the affiliate’s name but instead it is the affiliate ID. This is a string chosen at the sign up stage by your affiliates.
This is actually common practice with almost all affiliate programs which is why when choosing an affiliate ID you should probably choose a name which is not personal.

December 7, 2011 at 4:25 pm #39335shmulikshMemberHi Peter,
I have another question for you. Can you please explain me how does the tracking work with product launches. I do understand the following: (copied from your email template to affiliates)
1. Visitor clicks on an affiliate link on your site or in an email.
2. The visitors IP is logged and a cookie is placed in their browser for tracking purposes.
3. The visitor browses our site, and may decide to order.
4. If the visitor orders (the order does not need to be placed during the same browser session – cookies and IPs are stored up to a configurable amount of time), the order will be registered as a sale for you and you will receive commission for this sale.
My question is this- what happened if few affiliates send the same email to the same person? Will the sale count to the first affiliate who send them the link or if they opened it again from a different affiliate then will it start the tracking again?
Also, I assume that if they decide to buy from let say a third affiliate, that this affiliate will get the commotion.
I am just trying to understand how it works. Thank you for your patient.

We might need to get clarification from admin about the exact behaviour, but I think that the last affiliate link will receive the sale.
However let’s wait for admin to confirm this

December 8, 2011 at 4:11 am #39338adminKeymasterThe last affiliate always gets the credit (its his referral that resulted the final sale).
October 9, 2013 at 2:33 am #39339tandpmillerMemberSo say an affiliate links to the sales page through a graphic. A reader clicks on it, but the book isn’t available yet so they sign up to be notified when it is.
When I send out the email to the reader that the book is available, with just the plain sales page link (not an affiliate link), who gets the credit? Me or them?
October 9, 2013 at 3:51 am #39340adminKeymasterThe affiliate gets the credit (when you are sending them a plain link, you are not overriding the previous affiliate referral which is why they continue to get the referral commission).
