I submitted this issue on the eStore/Affiliate integration page, but I don’t see it there now. Looks like you have updated your site recently, maybe my issue got lost in transition?
I originally left the default commission level in the Affiliates plugin blank and only had commission rates set up under the individual products in the eStore(one product gets $5 flat rate, the others get no commission).
Affiliates were confused because they did not see the commission rate in their profile, so I posted the question about whether changing this would override per-item commissions but went ahead and made the change, figuring I would hear back pretty quickly because you guys are always very quick to respond, and that if it was incorrect, I could always put it back.
I set up the default rate as $5, and updated the individual affiliate profiles to show a rate of $5.
The problem is that now commission is showing as payable even on the non-commissioned items. So I guess I answered my original question, which was does the default rate and/or the per-affiliate rate override the per-product settings– looks like the answer to that is yes.
So how can I undo this now? I have removed the default commission rate under Commission Settings on the Affiliate Settings page, so I assume new affiliates will no longer have a default rate set, but I have 5 of them who have $5 set, and I am unable to delete that out by editing them individually.
If I make that number a 0, is that going to preclude their getting commission on the item I DO want them to receive commission for? Or is there some other way to fix this that would be better?
And is there a way to update commissions already showing as awarded so that the affiliate’s view does not show them as payable? It is just 2 transactions at this point. I see that I can delete those transactions, but don’t want to do that unless/until I know that isn’t going to cause other problems.
Thank you in advance for your help. I have learned my lesson, so this time I will wait for a response before doing anything.

You should do the following (given what you are after):
Keep a default commission rate value in the general settings of the affiliate plugin. Then make sure each estore product has a commission value. You can use a value of “0” for the products that shouldn’t give any commission.
Deleting any commission that you don’t want to pay is totally okay. It won’t cause any issue.
August 1, 2014 at 7:16 pm #64575splashmediaMemberThe per-product commission setting unfortunately does not override the per-affiliate commission setting. Sales of non-commissionable items are resulting in a commission showing in the affiliate’s dashboard and the commission notification email being sent.
I did some tweaking and testing and found the following (note: the per-product commission rates were set correctly at 5 for the commissionable item and 0 for the non-commissionable item):
– Setting the per-affiliate commission rate to 0 resulted in commissions not being awarded when they should be. The transaction showed and the notification was sent, but the commission awarded showed as 0.
– I am now able for some reason to remove the per-affiliate commission rate setting altogether so that field is blank, but removing it resulted in commissions not being awarded when they should be. The transaction showed and the notification was sent, but the commission awarded showed as 0.
So it looks like I will need to send them a list of their transactions so they can see which transactions that they received a notification of and that show in their dashboard were actually NOT commissionable. I could delete out the non-commissionable transactions as they happen, but prefer the transparency of their being able to see the data for themselves.
I will be testing to see if removing the default commission rate setting in the general Affiliate plugin settings means that any new affiliates added will work properly, so the problem will at least be limited only to the existing affiliates.
If you have any suggestions, I would love a fix, but I am assuming there probably isn’t one. I wish I had never changed the per-affiliate commission rate setting as it was working correctly before I did.
Just wanted to let you know, might want to incorporate that into the documentation someplace.
August 2, 2014 at 12:25 am #64576adminKeymasterThis is how it works for sure:
1) If there is a product specific commission for an eStore product, then that value will be used to calculate commission
2) Else it will take the value from the affiliate’s profile
3) Else it will take the global value from the settings.
If your site is not behaving that way, then there is something else going on and we can take a look to see what it is (if you want).
May 19, 2020 at 4:03 pm #64577peacefulplanetMemberI am new here so hope this is the right place for this. I downloaded WP Affiliate platform on 19th April while a particular person was working on building my LearnDash course site. (www.learnyourhumanrights.com) I was told by someone else with experience with LearnDash that there is an affiliate plugin that allows for setting a two levels deep affiliate commission. That is each affiliate earns commission on direct contacts and contacts of contacts. I didn’t ask specifically if he had used WP Affiliate platform with LearnDash. The helper at that time told me that the WP Affiliate Platform was not compatible with LearnDash and we used another (free) affiliate plugin. He is no longer working on my project. Please tell me if WP Affilaite Platform does work with LearnDash. If it should work then I can get someone to set it up correctly. If it does not then I can use the plugin for another, non-course related project. Depending on the reply I can contact the helper for more details but I want to establish whether it should work with LearnDash or not.

If you desire, you can request a custom work order quote, for integrating LearnDash, and a developer will get back to you:
