Affiliate code in Shopping cart

I set up a coupon that is linked to an affiliate id to provide a discount on a particular product. In the shopping cart there is both an input box for Enter Affiliate ID and for Enter Coupon Code. I was under the assumption that the Enter Coupon Code ( the coupon code would link to the affiliate id for tracking. Please advise as how to eliminate the ENTER Affiliate ID request.
