Adding text to shipping option

Hi,

I would like to know how I can add text to the Update button in the shipping option. The situation is like this…..

When a product is added to the cart, it pops up in the side-bar. I have 3 shipping regions and the local one is selected by default. Underneath is the Update button which, when clicked, adds the shipping cost to the cart. If a visitor changes this default option, a red text appears telling the visitor to Update so that the data is finalized.

Is it possible to have this text constantly ON? I guess my point is that when a product is added to the cart and a customer does not press the Update button, the shipping costs are not added to the cart, but the customer can proceed to the Paypal page.

Or maybe make it in such a way that the customer cannot continue with the purchase unless he or she has clicked the Update button? Is this possible?

I understand what you are saying. It was implemented assuming that the most used path (the first option of the variation) will not have a price difference (example: domestic shipping). So most of your customers will go through a speedy checkout without having to update because there is no price difference. So out of all the 3 options in the variation you don’t have one option that doesn’t increase the price?

Thanks very much for your swift answer.

The thing is, I need to add shipping. The three options are The Netherlands, Europe and Rest of the World. So all need to have a price added.

I was thinking about this yesterday, maybe I can add an option at the top that just says, “Choose Region” or something?

Yeah try adding that then let me know how it goes. If you still have issues I will think of something then.

OK, I added the option “Choose Region” to the shipping variation option like this,

Region|Choose Region|Netherlands:2.20|Europe:6.20|World:10.45

It works fine if a visitor adds something to the cart, he or she sees to choose the region and then gets the Click the Update message. But still, if the person doesnt’see that or doesn’t want to, they can still go to paypal. I guess if this happens, I could always send a paypal payment request for the rest, but if it happens a lot, it might be a bit cumbersome.

Also, if something is added to the cart and a region is chosen, should the person remove the cart items and add something else, the region is still selected. I think this comes from the cookie, right? So the person will need to be made aware to click the Update button again.
