Hi,
I am thinking about creating a large membership site using eMember, but just want to make sure it has the functionality I am after before proceeding.
Apart from the main core membership “levels”, I would like to be able to offer smaller add-on products. Some members will purchase these, while others will not. What I am wondering is how exactly to create these.
I assume I would create a new “level” just for a particular smaller product, and would limit access to whatever download/training pages are part of this product.
I guess my main question is this – if someone is a core member already and they order the new product (which is a new level in the same membership) would it simply ADD that access to their existing access? Would they need to register all over again?
Obviously an ideal scenario would be having the person order the new product, the system recognizes them as a core member, and simply opens up access to the pages associated with the add-on product.
Hopefully I didn’t make this too confusing – lol
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
B.
July 28, 2016 at 10:46 pm #73823wzpModeratorWhat you are thinking about is called “level stacking.” These are just membership levels added “on top of” an already existing membership level. If there is some kind of relationship between the which base levels can purchase which addon levels, you’d need to protect the purchase pages so that only the appropriate base levels can purchase their specific addon levels.

This sounds like it might work.
The idea here is that these add-ons would be independent of the main membership (i.e you wouldn’t need another membership level in order to qualify to purchase the products – apart from marketing them to existing members I would want to sell them independently as well).
Perhaps I would need to create separate order buttons for these two situations?
July 29, 2016 at 6:08 am #73825adminKeymasterThe multiple membership per user is the only option we have that comes close to what you are after. So please read that feature documentation really good then see that will work for you.
July 29, 2016 at 11:44 am #73826bentley74MemberJust to be clear, in order for an existing member to be able to purchase one of these add-ons and have it added to their profile they need to be logged in, right?
There is no system in place whereby the membership software recognizes (for example) an email address of a member and will add the level even if they are logged out when they make the purchase?
Even if not, I think this could work – I’d simply need to emphasize the importance of ordering the add-ons from inside the member’s area (offering a discount would likely help to encourage this).
And worst case scenario, I CAN manually add an additional level for a member correct?
Thanks again for your help. I really do want to use eMember for this since I’m used to it and it connects so nicely with eStore!

July 30, 2016 at 4:55 am #73827adminKeymasterThe plugin can ONLY recognize logged-in members (just like any other system). If you need the existing member’s profile to be recognized then you need to make it so they can’t purchase items without being logged in.
We can use Amazon as an example. You can’t go there and checkout anonymously. Then Amazon wonders which account that purchase should go to. They will make sure you are logged into your account before you can purchase items. Similar concept applies here too since you are setting it up like that.
eStore plugin has a feature that you can enable so it ensures that users are logged into an account before the checkout can proceed. Alternative, you can protect the addon page using eMember so only members can log into their account to view that page and buy from there.
You are going to use option 2 or 3 from the following documentation. So make sure to read it fully to see if that will work:

Yes, you can manually add levels to a member.
