Adding a button in the editor

Has anyone done this:

Add a function to the editor to make a button that asks for the variables for the shortcode?

My client can’t remember the syntax..

I would be down with sponsoring / coordinating development of this feature should someone be able to hack the editor with a plugin…

There are many different types of shortcodes in WP eStore so adding them to the editor is not viable.

There is a plugin called Post Snippets that will allow you to do exactly what you are after:
