Add referred affiliate info to registration page?

I want to add an line in the registration form that will have the “Referred Affiliate” on it for those registering to add that information. I tried to edit the affiliate.php file but get a blank page instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you…

Referred affiliate (meaning this person will be the secondary affiliate) is always calculated automatically by the plugin. This is not something the user can or needs to fill in. When this control is given to the user then there will be a good chance that this data will be wrong.
