A Suggestion for secure download links

I’m a long time Tips and Tricks HQ enthusiast and I teach people how to create sites using your products.

Something that would be good would be a way for WPeMember to deal with download security separate from WPeStore. I have literally hundreds of download items that are hosted securely at Amazon S3. I currently resort to using a competitor’s plugin to manage encrypted download links.

I also have a number of products that I sell and it just doesn’t make sense to create a free product for each download just so that I can manage encrypted links.

I will be encorporating the Light Box plugin into my membership lessons in the near future. Unfortunately, at this point it’s only a viable option when encrypted downloads aren’t required.

Hi Rick, Yeah I thought about adding the whole encrypted download thing in eMember but the fact is that the encrypted stuff that eStore does is quite robust (with various server compatibility mode and amazon s3 integration and many other options under the hood). Adding the same functionality in eMember will add a lot of work. I can obviously add that which will in turn result in an increased price for eMember. But you can already buy eMember and eStore together at a much cheaper rate than any other good plugins out there.

To get the kind of file protection that eStore offers you will have to configure each download item separately in eMember too (same as configuring a product now). Configuring lots of product is not an issue anymore with mass import options from CSV file:

I understand your position. The real value of WP eMember isn’t that it’s cheaper than the competition (which it is). The real value is that it is stable and well integrated with the other tipsandtricks-hq plugins.

For a new person setting up a membership site there is no substitute to having shopping cart, membership and affiliate all integrated so that setup and configuration is simple and you can expect it all to work together.

I am looking forward to testing your new Lightbox Plugin. Secure access to Amazon S3 for both flash and html 5 video is a unique product offering. I currently have to rely on multiple products to accomplish the same task.
