Is this scenario possible?
I’m launching a new product that will be an extensive package of print materials. While I’m waiting on the printer and to get an idea of order volume, I’d like to offer customers the option of “reserving” a copy.
1. Take a $4.97 deposit from customers to reserve a copy of the package of materials. The period of time to reserve a copy would be from May 1 through May 22.
2. On May 23, hit their account for the remainder of the price plus shipping, then ship packages within 48 hours. (I might offer a $5 coupon for reserving early.)
I can figure out how to set up the trial payment and single recurring payment, but the recurring happens after a set time period, regardless of then the order is placed — it might be 23 days after the trial payment or it might be 2 days. I want to be able to charge all reservers on the same day and ship all the orders at once.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

PayPal actually doesn’t have a date based option where you specify a certain amount to be charged on a particular date.
This is what you can do. Every morning just change the value of the “Trial Billing Period” field to adjust the number of days until 23 May. This way when someone makes a payment that day they will be signed up to be charged on the 23 May.
Now, if you find yourself doing a lot of these product launches in the future then it will be worthwhile to get a custom eStore shortcode developed that can calculate the days programmatically and create the subscription button accordingly so it doesn’t have to rely on PayPal’s basic subscription parameters.
Perfect! Thank will work for the short term. The custom short code is a good idea if this product actually sells enough to make that type of development feasible.
Thanks!
