I just watched the tutorial for an mp3 site [http://www.wordpress-ecommerce.com/how-to-sell-mp3-from-a-wordpress-site-619] and was inspired to redo my pay for video site:
I would like to sell 4 videos (using jw media flash player etc). I would liek to sell each video for $15 or all for $35 etc.
Using all 3 plugins: What is the best way to approach this? Private content code? Or categories? Or each video gets it’s own page and i lock down the 4 pages until they pay?? Should I do this in emember with levels?
I want to use the buynow (not subscribe), but make the access good for 30 days.
I would appreciate anyone who would like to share their tips. A bullet outline would be awesome:
Thank you so much!

On each membership level you can specify the “Subscription Duration” to 30 days or so and the customers membership will expire after that time.
How you design it is entirely upto you but you could do the following:
1) Create 4 pages with the 4 videos embedded.
2) Create 5 membership levels. The first 4 membership levels are for each video page the 5th one is like the all access pass so membership with this level can see the content of all those 4 pages.
3) Protect the video pages accord to the membership levels.
4) Create 5 “Buy Now” buttons and hook it to the appropriate membership levels.
Now when someone makes a purchase they will have access to see the content of the page that you have specified in that membership level.
The following page has a typical membership registration flow that might help you understand the registration process:

March 8, 2010 at 6:31 pm #18106gymgangstaMemberSo with the Buy Now, there is no adding to the cart. They keep going back and forth to paypal, paying for each video at a time, with no way to add them together.
I’d be better with the add to cart buttons right?
I don’t mind the add to cart buttons, except it has that intermittent screen letting them know they are on the way to paypal. Was hoping to by pass that.
So buynow buttons can’t add to cart?
March 9, 2010 at 7:16 am #18107amin007ParticipantNope “Buy Now” buttons can’t add to the cart. If you can add the item to the cart then it wouldn’t be a “Buy Now” button anymore… it would be an “Add to Cart” button.
Remember the text of the button do not mean anything. It’s the type of the button. Button type “Add to Cart” means that the items can be added to the cart. “Buy Now” type buttons means it’s a one click single item purchase.
March 9, 2010 at 5:58 pm #18108gymgangstaMemberthanks for the info.
I want the customer to have the option of buying videos 2 and 3 together etc. So i need the add to cart function.
So the intermittent screen letting them know they are on the way to paypal is a must? They can’t just go there from the cart?
March 11, 2010 at 6:38 pm #18109gymgangstaMemberis there a way to skip the intermittent screen?
March 12, 2010 at 12:23 am #18110amin007ParticipantYou can do manual tweaks but I don’t advise it as it makes the upgrade process hard.
You could make package product (bundle two products) and use a “Buy Now” button for them too.
So you will have:
Buy Button 1 for product 1
Buy Button 2 for product 2
Buy Button 3 for product 1 & 2 bundled
May 3, 2010 at 8:05 pm #18111gymgangstaMemberHi Amin,
I’ve set it up as you have noted above with 5 membership levels.
Here’s the problems:
1. for each video they buy (each membership level) they get an email. Disc 1 “Complete your registration” disc 2 “Complete your registration” etc.
I was curious to see if this can be cleanly done with digital content delivery. The trouble with this, is when they are sent to the thank you page, they do see:
You ordered the following items:
DVD 1 online – [http://www.example.com/?enc_dl_action=process&file=2xOaS0BW%2FWWgarq]
DVD 2 Online – [http://www.example.com/?enc_dl_action=process&file=FS0BW%2FWWgarq]
When they click on the link (They have yet to register) they see:
“Please Login to view this Content.(Not a member? Join Today!)”
clicking on login &event=login takes them to page not found and join today takes them back to my buy now page.
This is frustrating. There’s got to be a cleaner way for someone to use paypal for online video viewing. Customer does not need any confusion.
When they get their email to click on the link to register, it is to register for each DVD viewing.
Membership = Disc 1 30 Days, the other email takes them to Membership = Disc 2 30 Days,
Sure hope there is a better way to do this…. 4 DVDs online. Using add to cart buttons, so they can buy dvd 1, dvd 3 online etc.
May 4, 2010 at 12:51 am #18112amin007ParticipantLooks like you have made it so every product is also a member payment button? WRONG!
You need to first sit down and think about what should be the requirement for someone becoming a member of your site. Do you want to make it free? Do you want to charge a premium to become a member? If you want to charge money to become a member then you create a membership payment button. This button will be used by your visitors to only become a member. Once they become a member they can access the protected content and buy the members only stuff.
This is the basic membership site model. Yes, depending on your situation you may need a different solution but you need to think the whole thing through first before you start implementing stuff.
In your case I would use eStore’s simple Pay Per View feature. So after they become a member they can buy any of these videos. The videos are embedded on a plain HTML page and configured in eStore as Pay Per View item. Now when a member makes a purchase he/she will be able to view the video.
May 4, 2010 at 3:20 am #18113gymgangstaMemberI’m trying….yes sir I’m trying indeed..
I have 4 flv videos. each one is on it’s own page.
I want them to be able to buy any video, video 1 and video 3 via add to cart for example. Each video can be viewed for 30 days (not forever).
I can’t be the only one doing this, will check out the script that was sent to me by IVy for pay per view…
cheers Amin, we are close, I feel it..
May 4, 2010 at 4:35 am #18114amin007ParticipantNo problemo. Just do the following simple exercise first (it doesn’t even involve eMember):
1) Create 4 plain HTML pages (each has a video embedded on it).
2) Upload these pages to some secret spot on your site. Example:
3) Now configure a product in eStore and Use this URL in the “Digital Content URL” field (make sure to uncheck “downloadable” checkbox and check the “pay per view” option.
4) Make a purchase and see how it allows the customer to view the video (video1.html) without revealing it’s URL? You can set the encrypted link to expire in 30 days so customers can have access to this video for 30 days.
Once you have done this exercise things will start to become clear then you can add in a bit more twist with the Membership plugin
May 4, 2010 at 5:10 am #18115gymgangstaMember“Once you have done this exercise things will start to become clear then you can add in a bit more twist with the Membership plugin “
I’ve had lots of twists so far, can’t say I need more.. ;P
ummm regarding your test, do I need to undo the emember settings etc. i.e. membership levels…
I went ahead and deactivated the emember plugin.
By doing so the encrpted links on my thank you page worked and sent them to the videos. I did a test buy of 2 dvds to purchase, and all 4 were unlocked…
I’m doing something wrong here…what is it?
recapping: 4 videos embedded on 4 wordpress pages (not posts)
/vod-disc-1/
/vod-disc-2/
/vod-disc-3/
/vod-disc-4/
/buy-now/ page:
has 4 add to cart tags,
[wp_eStore_add_to_cart id=1], [wp_eStore_add_to_cart id=2], [wp_eStore_add_to_cart id=3],[wp_eStore_add_to_cart id=4]
when purchasing 1,2 / 3 and 4 gets unlocked with emember deactivated.
I’m stumped.
May 4, 2010 at 2:30 pm #18116amin007ParticipantThis one is a little complex to explain but I will try:
I want to see one standalone HTML page embedded with just one video (no wordpress post or page)
Then Use the URL of this HTML page in the “Digital content URL” (specify it as Pay Per View content).
When you purchase this product and click on the encrypted link it will take you to some link which will allow you to view the content of this page but you will notice the URL is not the actual URL of the HTML page that has the video embedded. This link will only show the page after you click on the encrypted link. If you try to copy and paste this masked link on a different browser (e.g IE if you used firefox for the other one) it won’t work.
Basically you can view the content of the page in a masked link for so long after you click the encrypted link. So after the encrypted link expires (e.g after 30 days) you can’t view this content any more.
Let me know if this concept makes sense.
