    Hi there,

within last three months I got contacted by my customers missing their emails because of their anti-spam filter, this happens often when they use GMail as mail provider. I wonder if this is due to the links contained in the purchase e-mail, and would like to know from other WPeStore users if there’s some workaround.

    Thanks

Google has some kind of “secret sauce” algorithm for determining how their default spam filters work. Some of these “ingredients” are beyond your immediate control.

In the worst case; if your hosting provider has a large percentage of known spam sites as customers; Google might decide that all emails originating from the provider are spam, by default! Ditto for browser blacklists; choose the wrong hosting provider and your site may be unfairly be labeled as an attack site.

Large numbers of “cookie cutter” messages, like purchase confirmation emails, being sent from your site can also do it. For instance, registration confirmations for the 2013 CES routinely end up in spam folders; due to their large number and cookie cutter format. Look at this as being an indication of your success!

Even password reset messages from places like Hotmail and Yahoo end up in spam folders.

What you can do, is to include on your Thank You page, a message that reads something like: Your purchase confirmation and download links have been sent! If you do not receive it within 4 hours, please check your spam folder, and add XYZ.com to your “not spam” filter.

This is a good resource for you to read:
