Hi.
I have just bought PDF Stamper today and trying manual stamping.
I uploaded my pdf file and set “URL of the source file” to
http://mysite.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf
However, stamping fails with the following error.
====
Error! Message: Cannot open /home/myname/www/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf !
Error Code: 1
=====
I think the cause is that PDF stamper refers to
/home/myname/www/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf
while the pdf file locates at
/home/myname/www/mysite/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf
Where shold I set the path ?
Thanks in advance.

December 12, 2011 at 5:22 am #39528adminKeymasterEnter the following URL in the browser’s address bar and you will see that the file is not there which is why the plugin couldn’t open the file:
http://mysite.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf
It is always a good idea to double check the URL of the PDF file to make sure you did not make a typo there.
December 12, 2011 at 5:45 am #39529supertatMemberThank you for your answer.
I made sure that the URL
http://mysite.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf
returns the correct pdf file(aaa.pdf).
Howerver, stamping fails.
Do you have any idea to resolve this issue ?
December 12, 2011 at 8:54 am #39530adminKeymasterIs the PDF file encrypted? If a file is encrypted that usually means the PDF stamper won’t be able to open the file. Are you using a Godaddy hosting? What is the PDF version number that you have installed?
December 12, 2011 at 10:19 am #39531supertatMember> Is the PDF file encrypted?
No. it’s a simple pdf file converted from a text file.
> Are you using a Godaddy hosting?
No.
> What is the PDF version number that you have installed?
Acrobat 9.4.
As I mentioned in the first post, the path PDF Stamper refers is wrong.
(/home/myname/www/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf)
The correct path is
/home/myname/www/mysite/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/aaa.pdf
My wordpress root directory is /home/myname/www/mysite/ and
all the wordpress files are located under /home/myname/www/mysite/.
Do you know why PDF Stamper regards /home/myname/www/ as the wordpress root directory ?
December 12, 2011 at 3:20 pm #39532wzpModeratorDo you have more than one WordPress installation on your site? That might confuse the plugin, when it’s trying to find the root directory of WordPress.
December 12, 2011 at 9:21 pm #39533supertatMemberYes, I have two WordPress installation on my site.
Is there any way to avoid PDF Stamper from being comfused other than removing another installation ?
December 12, 2011 at 9:53 pm #39534wzpModeratorBingo!
I don’t have access to the Stamper’s unencrypted source, so @admin will have to recommend a solution.
But from what is happening, I’m supposing that you have one WordPress at the root level and one in a subdirectory. If both WordPress sites were in separate directories, the problem wouldn’t occur.
The reason the problem occurs, is because, at some point, the plugin needs to convert URL into file paths. The conversion process needs to know where the WordPress root directory is. The “other” WordPress site at the document root level is throwing it off.
December 12, 2011 at 11:50 pm #39535supertatMemberThank you.
> If both WordPress sites were in separate directories, the problem wouldn’t occur.
The two installations are in separate directories in the same parent directory.
That is,
– WP installation 1: /home/myname/www/mysite/
– WP installation 2: /home/myname/www/mysite2/
The URL http://mysite.org refers /home/myname/www/mysite/.
php.ini file is at /home/myname/www/, though I’m not sure whether it has any relationship or not.
December 13, 2011 at 6:33 am #39536adminKeymasterYou should be able to have multiple WordPress installs without problem. There is most likely an issue with the path conversion on this server so the PDF stamper is getting confused. I have sent you an email to get site access so I can investigate what is happening.
December 13, 2011 at 11:56 am #39537supertatMemberI have just sent the site access information.
To reproduce the issue, please refer the instructions I wrote in the form.
December 16, 2011 at 5:14 am #39538adminKeymasterThe file path conversion on your server wasn’t working. We have added an additional method of file path conversion preference in the settings menu of the PDF Stamper plugin. The 2nd method is working on your site.
January 6, 2014 at 6:12 pm #39539petemeechanMemberI think I may be having similar issues. I have tried without the “http://” and it didn’t work, and have tried from just the “/wp2” onwards, but to no avail. Yet when I include the full URL (which opens the PDF in the browser with no problems), the error below happens.
I am pretty sure I have more than one wordpress install in this webspace (a website for a family member).
My error is:
[01/06/2014 5:39 PM] – SUCCESS :Stamping the PDF file using API.
[01/06/2014 5:39 PM] – SUCCESS :Source File URL is: [http://www.mysite.co.uk/wp2/PMM_DL_9867asdfghkdsfg987234/filename.pdf]
[01/06/2014 5:39 PM] – SUCCESS :Using the internal API to stamp the file
[01/06/2014 5:39 PM] – FAILURE :An error occured while trying to stamp the file! Error details: Message: Cannot open /home/../PMM_DL_9867asdfghkdsfg987234/filename.pdf ! Error Code: 1
[01/06/2014 5:39 PM] – FAILURE :Stamping of PDF file failed.
How do I change the “file path conversion preference” so that it sees the correct url for the pdf?
January 7, 2014 at 1:25 am #39540adminKeymasterThe source file URL you entered is wrong so first you have to fix that. If you enter the following URL in a browser’s address bar, you will see that it gives a “Not Found” error:
That means you have a typo in the above URL. Please fix that first then try the stamping test again.
January 7, 2014 at 3:59 am #39541petemeechanMemberApologies. Here is the actual code:

Edit: should also say that the file manually stamps perfectly and that I have done all of the steps to try and resolve this problem.
