Buyers don’t have to have a PayPal account to be able to pay you as long as you have a PayPal premier or business account. They can pay by credit card too. PayPal will give your customers the option to pay by credit card if they don’t have a PayPal account. When your customers go to the checkout page on PayPal they will see a line similar to the following:
Don’t have a PayPal account?
Use your credit card or bank account (where available).
This page has more detailed info:
PayPal normally figures out if you have a PayPal account or not from the cookies on your computer. Try deleting all the cookies and hit the checkout button to go to PayPal and it will present you with the option to pay by credit card upfront.
April 9, 2011 at 6:44 pm #22339lorabMemberI need to offer people the option to check out using their credit card even if they do have a pay pal account. Is that possible?
April 10, 2011 at 12:12 am #22340amin007ParticipantWhen your customers land on the PayPal checkout page they will be able to choose if they want to pay via their PayPal account or use a credit card. Please read the “Buyers can pay using a Credit Card or their PayPal account” section from this page and it will explain:

April 23, 2011 at 7:55 pm #22341MickeMemberThis doesn’t work for me anymore.
Have they changed paypal?
Edit: I tried to buy one of the products on your site and it worked fine (the credit card option appeared).
April 24, 2011 at 12:16 am #22342amin007ParticipantTwo common mistakes
1) PayPal do not offer credit card purchase option for your shop if you only have a personal PayPal account. You need to have a premier or business PayPal account as the merchant to offer credit card option to your customers.
2) PayPal normally figures out if you have a PayPal account or not from the cookies on your computer. If they know that you have a PayPal account they may not show the credit card option upfront. You will have to click a button or link that says “Pay with your credit or debit card”. This DOES NOT mean your customers will not be able to purchase using their credit card.
If none of the above two applies to you then you need to contact PayPal.
April 24, 2011 at 1:54 am #22343MickeMemberThanks,
I know what you are talking about.
It simply doesn’t work anymore. It states clearly that I have a premier account on paypal’s website. It worked some days ago.
I guess I’ll have contact paypal then. I’ll keep you updated.
May 27, 2011 at 9:37 pm #22344MickeMemberI found the solution. I had to turn “PayPal Account Optional” on.
(Profile–>See my old Profile page–>Website Payment Preferences–>PayPal Account Optional)
It might also be necessary to verify your business or premier account. I’m not sure if it’s needed.
I have another question: When a customer wants to pay with credit card it might be a little confusing to click on a button with the text: “Check out with paypal”.
Is there a way to fix that. For example have one button for paypal and one for credit card or one button with a better description.
May 28, 2011 at 3:24 am #22345amin007ParticipantSimply replace the current checkout image with your own custom image with better description. You will find the checkout image in the “images” directory of the eStore plugin.
May 28, 2011 at 11:05 am #22346MickeMemberI changed to a button with the text “Pay Now”. I now need to find a way to change the width and height of the button because it looks a bit disproportional.
May 28, 2011 at 11:56 pm #22347amin007ParticipantWhen you want to replace an image you should create the new image using the same dimension of the previous image so the replacement fits perfectly. Resize the image to 143 x 41 pixel or start with a canvas of that size.
July 4, 2011 at 2:43 am #22348CherylNZMemberHi
I am also getting the option in Paypal that customers have to set up an account. I have Business account with Paypal. Is there some setting I have to change?
July 4, 2011 at 2:49 am #22349CherylNZMemberFound the mistake – had made a typing error in the paypal email address!
