Is there a way to set up my eproduct to prevent from selling to countries in the EU since the new EU VAT laws take effect Jan. 1st 2015?
December 16, 2014 at 11:49 pm #67480adminKeymasterWe are working on a new addon to deal with the new EU VAT laws. We can definitely add an option in that addon so it doesn’t allow customers from those countries to be able to do a checkout.
December 17, 2014 at 5:52 pm #67481clickitupanotchMemberGreat. Do you know when these add ons will be ready?
December 18, 2014 at 1:34 am #67482adminKeymasterShould be ready in a few days.
December 18, 2014 at 3:24 pm #67483clickitupanotchMemberWonderful! Thank you for helping us out with this issue.
December 19, 2014 at 12:24 pm #67484ozgirl57SpectatorI would love this option also. Thanks.
December 20, 2014 at 9:27 am #674853wmSpectatorThanks! I would like that too!
Also is it possible to do the following as well:
1) Only block EU buyers who are not VAT registered. Perhaps capture their VAT Registration Numbers? B2B e-service in the EU is not affected by the new EUVAT rule.
2) Let UK sellers have the option to whitelist UK buyers so they are not blocked? UK2UK e-service is not affected by the new EUVAT rule.
3) For the buyers who are not blocked can we also add a default checkbox to say something like “By ticking this box I confirm that I’m purchasing in a non-EU country or UK…”
THANK YOU for your help!
December 25, 2014 at 4:40 am #67486adminKeymasterThe first version of the addon is ready for download:

We will add an option to block sale to any of the configured countries next.
December 26, 2014 at 8:48 pm #67487Carthage BuckleyMemberThanks for that admin. It looks to be perfect for the job.
I just have a quick question re: using buy now buttons with the plugin.
Will it automatically add the tax based on the individual’s IP address or does the plugin only work with the add to cart option?
December 27, 2014 at 8:26 pm #67488whittamSpectatorIt looks like the new addon goes some way to satisfy the new, asinine EU requirements, however it doesn’t look like it:
– Collects two non-conflicting pieces of evidence verifying the location of EU customers. I’m not sure that asking customers to self identify their country is acceptable.
– Identifies customers who have a valid VAT number.
It also has the disadvantage that it requires us to keep up with the rates in many different VAT jurisdictions, to say nothing of generating all the necessary paperwork.
In the short term your up-coming option to exclude EU customers looks like the most useful.
It seems like a number of shopping carts are providing an integration with a service like Taxamo (taxamo.com). Any chance you might consider this?
December 27, 2014 at 11:13 pm #67489adminKeymasterHere is the addon for blocking the selling of items to certain countries (example: EU countries):
https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/wp-estore-country-blocking-addon-3492
That other addon does use two pieces of info to determine the country. It uses the IP address and it asks the users for their country. It will also capture the country value from the payment gateway (example: PayPal). We read the list from the rule and those 2 are mentioned in the list.
Yes, we are going to create another addon that will integrate with Taxamo. This EU rule kind of came out of the blue without much notice (normally they give a lot of notice for this kind of change).
December 29, 2014 at 9:19 pm #67490ozgirl57SpectatorSo as I understand it, the country blocking plugin blocks countries on a sitewide basis but is it possible to block countries per product or category? For example, block sales of digital products to certain countries but allow sales of physical products to those same countries?
Thanks for your efforts.
December 30, 2014 at 2:42 am #67491adminKeymasterYeah, we can add another option in there so it blocks the checkout if any item in the cart is “Digital”.
December 30, 2014 at 11:01 am #67492ozgirl57SpectatorBlocking digital products would be perfect, or at least as perfect as it can be considering the whole messy scenario (sigh) Thanks.
December 31, 2014 at 2:13 am #67493adminKeymasterWe have implemented this. There is an additional checkbox in this addon for blocking digital product selling to certain countries.
