Hi there,
We are having trouble with two critical functionalities in managing our members, and that we are having trouble figuring out how to do. The first is that we are unable to apply additional membership levels in bulk. For example, in the members list, we can select more than one member and then select an account state, hit ‘apply’ and the change takes. But if we select a member and then select a membership level, the change does not take effect. We have hundreds and eventually it will be thousands of new members coming in, and we need to be able to apply additional membership levels to them easily, in bulk, depending on the course(s) they took and the languages they speak.
And then, in conjunction with this, we’ve been unable to search through our member list with any keywords other than name and username. We use a custom field in our registration form, so that all members have the location of the course they attended noted on their account. One of the main locations, for example, is ‘London.’ But when we type ‘London’ into the members list search bar, no members appear in the list.
So for example, being able to simply search all our members for ‘Madrid’ to bring up everyone who has that listed on their account, then apply the membership level of ‘Spanish’ to them so that they can access the additional materials that are in that language. So, having to do this individually and not being able to search is the difference between hours upon hours of work.
Perhaps there is another way to perform these actions that we are not aware of? Please help.
Thank you,
Justin
November 3, 2013 at 8:06 am #58619mbrsolutionSpectatorHello Justin can you please try the following links.
When you say you have not been able to search through your membership list, what procedure are you currently using that is not working for you.
Kind regards
November 5, 2013 at 8:29 am #58620clearscopeParticipantForgive me if I am missing the obvious, but I do not see anywhere that it explains how to apply a membership level to more than one member at once within the members list.
For searching the members list, we are using the search text field above the members list. Is there another way to search? Searching for ‘London’ for example, which many members have noted in a custom field on their account, retrieves 0 results. Nothing we type in except for name or username brings any results.
November 5, 2013 at 9:59 am #58621mbrsolutionSpectatorHello Justin, What version of eMember plugin are you using?
Go to eMember settings and check the “Enable Secondary Membership” field and you will be able to assign more than one membership level to a user.
Regarding the search… at the present moment the only way you can achieve your search preference is by creating membership levels for each country and or city. For example if you create a membership level named Madrid and another one named London you can then perform the search you requested above.
When you search for your members you simply select Active and then select the Role whether it be Madrid or London. You don’t need to enter anything on the search box simply click on the search button and you will get a list of members belonging to the level you selected.
Is this something that would help you?
Kind regards
November 6, 2013 at 1:50 am #58622clearscopeParticipantHi mbr,
We are using eMember v8.7.5.
We have ‘Enable Secondary Membership’ enabled already, but we are only able to add membership levels by going into each account individually, one at time. We are wanting to add a secondary membership level to multiple members at once, it is costing us a lot of time to have to do it one at a time. Is there a way to apply membership levels to more than one member at a time?
Regarding the search – is it possible to have search functionality increased in the next release? It seems like being able to search for keywords and custom fields on the accounts should be a pretty basic and essential functionality. What then is the purpose of that search bar if we can’t actually use it to search?
Thank you for the support…
November 7, 2013 at 6:05 am #58623clearscopeParticipantAlso, it does not let us search our members at all for additional membership levels. The search only seems to work for primary membership level. This is getting kind of critical for us. Why is the search capability so limited?
November 8, 2013 at 3:28 am #58624adminKeymasterWe have a few improvements coming to the member search function in the admin area. Please wait for few days for it.
November 24, 2013 at 4:38 am #58625adminKeymasterWe have completed our search feature improvement. Also there is now a feature to bulk change membership levels of users. I have sent you an update via email.
May 12, 2014 at 9:05 pm #58626wploveSpectatorI am using eMember eMember v8.8.7 and I tried to search my membership for members who had a certain secondary membership level, but the search came up empty. It appears the search function only works for the Primary Membership. Is this correct? Is there a way to search for members belonging to a certain membership regardless of whether it is assigned as their primary or a secondary?
This is important for me because the first membership level I am assigning to my list of imported users is the most important, but I will be adding secondary memberships to many of them. And (if I understand the processing correctly) a membership added later become the “Primary”, replacing the original Primary.
Thanks for your help.
May 13, 2014 at 4:36 am #58627adminKeymasterSearching the secondary levels with a filter adds a small “performance hit” for the search query. So we didn’t have that option. You can still search your entire members database with a keyword. Is there a particular thing you are searching that requires you to filter on the secondary level?
May 14, 2014 at 4:45 am #58628wploveSpectatorWhat I would like is to be able to generate a list of all members who have purchased a certain membership level, regardless of whether it’s their Primary or secondary or third or fourth or whatever membership level. I followed your advice that you listed above, entering in the name of the membership level (in this case “Test Membership”) in the search field under the eMember “Manage Members” tab. No users came up on this search, even though I know at least one member has been assigned the “Test Membership” level as one of their memberships. So it doesn’t seem like the keyword function will serve the purpose of generating the membership lists I need. (I sell online courses that delivered via membership-protected pages and I want, essentially, student lists for these courses.
I found a bit of a workaround, however-by going to eStore and using the “Manage Customers” tab and using the product ID of the membership level product I’m interested in to generate a list of members.
If you know of a way to do it within eMember, however, that would allow me to filter for active/non-active members.
Thanks for your help.
May 14, 2014 at 11:49 pm #58629adminKeymasterYou can get a list of email address from the following eMember interface:
WP eMember -> Members -> Member List
We can add more related options in the above interface if needed.
June 4, 2014 at 3:06 pm #58630wploveSpectatorThanks for getting back to me on this. I tried the interface that you indicated but it still came up with the same problem. It only displays members that have the searched for membership level (in this example “Community Membership”) as their primary membership level (my user profile has multiple memberships). As soon as I change my primary membership level to something else besides “Community Membership”via the user interface, I no longer show up on the email list generated by the “Member List” function, despite still holding a subscription to “Community Membership”.
This has a relationship with a new problem I discovered-the Public Profile listing. I want the Public Profile directory to only display members who have bought the “Community Membership” membership. I want to encourage them to purchase other memberships, however, but once they do their primary membership is bumped to that new product and they lose their place on the “Community Membership” profile directory.
I see two possible avenues to resolve both problems:
1. Allow all memberships to be searched and presented, regardless of whether they are primary or not.
2. Create a way to preserve a certain membership level as primary regardless of subsequent other membership purchases.
Thanks for any solutions you might have for this.
June 5, 2014 at 5:54 am #58631adminKeymasterI see what you mean. We can definitely include the searching of secondary levels when you use the following feature to generate an email list:
WP eMember -> Members -> Member List
The following is doable also but it will need to be handled as a custom job as it needs some custom coding:
Create a way to preserve a certain membership level as primary regardless of subsequent other membership purchases.
June 6, 2014 at 3:36 am #58632wploveSpectatorThe first option is really what I would prefer so I’m glad that it sounds like it’s pretty easily doable. Would this make the Public Profile listings presentations also able to display subscription holders who hold a certain subscription either as a primary or a secondary?
What are the next steps required to get this to work?
